Sunrise Movement Endorses Levin

“In a year that will be defined by the highs of workers unionizing across the country, and the lows of devastating climate disasters, it is a no-brainer to endorse Andy Levin for MI-11,” — Varshini Prakash, Sunrise Movement Executive Director.
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the youth-led Sunrise Movement to fight climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process endorsed former union organizer and green energy entrepreneur Congressman Andy Levin (D-Bloomfield Township) in the race for Michigan’s newly-drawn 11th district. Reported exclusively in National Journal Hotline:
“The Sunrise Movement is endorsing Rep. Andy Levin (D-09) in his primary against Rep. Haley Stevens (D-11). ‘Make no mistake, this race is a climate race,’ said Sunrise Movement Executive Director Varshini Prakash in a statement shared exclusively with Hotline. The group cited Levin’s union background, his early support for the Green New Deal, his signing of the No Fossil Fuel Money pledge and the No Corporate PAC pledge, and his commitment to shutting down Line 5, an issue Sunrise said Stevens has ‘waffled’ on. “In a year that will be defined by the highs of workers unionizing across the country, and the lows of devastating climate disasters, it is a no-brainer to endorse Andy Levin for MI-11,” said Varshini Prakash, Sunrise Movement Executive Director. “Make no mistake, this race is a climate race, and we are proud to back Andy Levin, who as a product of union organizing and an original cosponsor of the Green New Deal, has proven himself a lifelong movement member, and someone who is beholden to the people, not corporations.”
“With our planet on fire, costs rising and wages stagnant, it’s time to reject corporate cronyism that has polluted our planet and made working people poorer and sicker. It’s an honor to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Sunrise Movement in the fight to build a sustainable economy and a green future,” said Levin. “I was proud to bring home over $6 million dollars in Green New Deal project funding to our district, and we’re just getting started. With Sunrise’s people power added to our grassroots movement, I know we will keep delivering in the next Congress.”
Earlier this week, Clean Water Action endorsed Levin for his ability to build coalitions with labor and environmental groups to take on the corporate interests that seek to pit them against one another. Levin has every climate, environment and national union endorsement in the race. You can read the full list of Levin’s endorsements here.
