SEIU Endorses Levin in New Eleventh District

January 14, 2022

BLOOMFIELD TWP, MI – Today, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), one of the largest unions in the country representing nearly two million workers, announced its endorsement of Congressman Andy Levin, who is running for reelection in the newly-drawn Eleventh District of Michigan.

“SEIU is proud to endorse Andy Levin. He has a deep and rich history with SEIU and the entire labor movement—for decades he has organized, fought for and with workers to ensure their voices are heard from the workplace to corporate boardrooms, and to the United States Capitol," said Andrea Acevedo, President of SEIU Michigan and SEIU Healthcare Michigan. “Our members need his leadership in Washington, fighting for working people, their right to join a union, and a true multi-racial democracy.”

“My five years helping workers in an overwhelmingly female workforce organize unions with SEIU was really the foundational experience of my adult life,” said Congressman Levin. “It taught me about taking on tough fights against the largest health care corporations of the time. It also taught me that if working people stick together, they could change their lives and their society. I feel like I’ve never stopped being an SEIU organizer, which is why this endorsement is so meaningful to me.”

To date, Congressman Levin has received the endorsement of the Utility Workers Union of America; International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers; UNITE HERE Local 24; Oakland County Commissioner Emeritus Mattie McKinney-Hatchett (D-Pontiac); Oakland County Commissioners Penny Luebs (D-Clawson), Gary McGillivray (D-Madison Heights) and Charlie Cavell (D-Ferndale); Mayors Tim Greimel (Pontiac), Mike Fournier (Royal Oak), and Roslyn Grafstein (Madison Heights); and the family of Danny Fenster in Huntington Woods.
