Levin Stands With Young Democrats of Michigan, Endorses Candidates Targeted by AIPAC
May 9, 2022
ROYAL OAK, MI – First reported in the Detroit News, the Young Democrats of Michigan have called on Democratic candidates to not accept endorsements or contributions from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) after they endorsed Republican members of Congress who refused to recognize the results of the 2020 election. In response to their letter, Rep. Levin issued the following statement:
“The Young Democrats of Michigan are the future leaders of our state, who are taking the baton to continue to fight for racial and economic justice for all Michiganders. I am moved to see them speak up about the crucial issues facing our democracy and am proud to not be funding my campaign through an organization supporting insurrectionist Republicans and anti-choice candidates on both sides of the aisle.
“This is a critical moment to stand up for our democracy and for our fundamental rights. I am proud to endorse Summer Lee for Pennsylvania’s 12th District and Erica Smith for North Carolina’s 1st District. Far too often, pro-choice, working-class Black women are asked to do so much of the labor and rarely given the chance to lead. It is shameful that organizations that endorse and support insurrectionist Republicans are wading into these Democratic primaries, spending millions trying to drown out the voices of candidates like Summer and Erica. We must shine a light on what’s happening and fight like hell to get them to Washington so we can work together to codify Roe, protect our democracy and win a Green New Deal and Medicare for All.”
