Levin Responds to Criticism on Choice to Run in His Home District

January 31, 2022

BLOOMFIELD TWP, MI – Today, Congressman Andy Levin responded to comments made by Congresswoman Haley Stevens last night on Fox 2 News and elsewhere about his choice to run in his home district in Oakland County: “No politician, neither Congresswoman Stevens nor I have a claim on a district, and we’ll take our cases to the voters. No current Member of Congress has represented the new districts as drawn, full stop. I am running in the district drawn around the home where I’ve lived for 16 years raising my family, where I was raised, where my family has been for five generations and where voters have supported me. “This is not a game of ‘musical chairs’ as some would suggest. Members of the House have to run every two years on our record and have to earn the support of voters. I’m proud to be running as a strong and consistent progressive from the labor, environmental and human rights movements who always stands up for what is right. I’m also proud of the support I’m earning from leaders and voters across my home of Oakland County. I look forward to focusing on the issues on voters’ minds and not litigating the work of an independent commission that more than 2.7 million people voted to create when they passed Proposal 2 in 2018.”
