Dr. Abdul El-Sayed Endorses Levin

March 1, 2022

BLOOMFIELD TWP., MI – Today, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, epidemiologist, media personality, former candidate for Governor of Michigan and proud member of the National Writers Union, AFT Local 477, and SEIU Local 500, endorsed Congressman Andy Levin for Michigan’s new 11th District. Dr. El-Sayed’s endorsement follows several notable human rights groups endorsements in the past weeks, including the only Muslim-American advocacy group to weigh into the race: Emgage, J Street, Foreign Policy for America, and Peace Action.

“Where some politicians take the easy way out, playing nice with the powerbrokers who’ve left us poorer, sicker, and less secure, Andy Levin has consistently taken them on," said Dr. Abdul El-Sayed. "Andy understands that the only way to solve the challenges that working people across his district, our state, and our country face is through bold leadership that takes on the powerful private interests that have put their profits over the wellbeing of the People. Whether it's getting corporate money out of our politics, guaranteeing every single American health care, or standing up for the ideals of justice, equity, and human rights abroad, Andy is right on the issues. He’s the leader Michiganders deserve."

“Dr. El-Sayed, as a thought leader and public health expert, has made an incredible impact on Michigan politics as we navigated the era of Trump and now the ongoing pandemic. I’m very humbled to have his support with the countless young people and progressives who look to his leadership,” said Congressman Andy Levin. “As I like to say, it’s always the right time to do what’s right, and it’s moving to have someone recognize the courage that takes in our current political climate. I am honored to be on the side of justice with Dr. El-Sayed, and I look forward to his partnership on this campaign.”

To date, Congressman Levin has received several prominent endorsements from a host of local, state and federal leaders; national and local labor unions; and advocacy groups fighting for climate action, economic justice, human rights, reproductive health care, voting rights and more.
