Clean Water Action Endorses Levin for 11th Congressional District
June 21, 2022
LANSING- Today, Clean Water Action announced their endorsement of Congressman Andy Levin for Michigan’s 11th Congressional District.
“Few lawmakers have made environmental and climate justice as central to their work in Congress as Andy Levin,” said Mary Brady-Enerson, Michigan Director of Clean Water Action. “From his advocacy to protect the Great Lakes from a catastrophic oil spill, to his original cosponsorship of the Green New Deal, Congressman Levin has shown that he understands the threat climate change poses to our water and communities. We need Congressman Levin’s bold, creative and courageous leadership in Congress now more than ever.”
Congressman Andy Levin has a deep background in organizing and activism. He has been on the frontlines of environmental and climate campaigns since the 1980s, fighting against drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and fighting for the closure of a nuclear power plant near his college. He pledged to not accept any fossil fuel money for his campaign, and has been a consistent leader in Congress working to protect our water from lead, PFAS, and other harmful contaminants. Levin’s background as a union organizer has given him a unique and necessary perspective on the solidarity that must be built between labor unions, impacted communities, and environmental advocates to further advance and win on progressive issues.
“Too often, we see wealthy corporate interests and their supporters in Congress attempt to turn the labor movement and the environmental movement against each other, but Congressman Levin knows better. He understands the kind of solidarity we need to build to ensure that working families and impacted communities are front and center in a just transition away from fossil fuels,” said Sean McBrearty, MI Legislative and Policy Director of Clean Water Action. “We are proud to endorse his campaign and look forward to continuing to work with him in Congress.”
