Rep. Andy Levin Speaks Out Following Hearing for Incarcerated Groves High School Student
CLINTON TWP., MI - Today, Congressman Andy Levin (MI-09), Vice Chair of the House Education & Labor Committee, released this statement following yesterday's hearing in the case of the incarcerated 15-year-old "Grace" from Groves High School, located in his congressional district:
"After speaking with her lawyers, I am committed to seeing Grace freed. I regret that the judge doubled down on her decision, and I do not see a justification in the anachronistic incidences cited for incarcerating this child during a pandemic. As we face simultaneous public health and racial justice emergencies, we must hold one another accountable to end the school-to-prison pipeline and keep our children safe."
