Rep. Andy Levin Applauds Harvard Union Contract
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, Congressman Andy Levin, Vice Chair of the House Education and Labor Committee, released the following statement on the ratification of the Harvard Graduate Students Union - United Auto Workers (HGU-UAW) first contract with Harvard University:
“A hearty congrats to Harvard University and HGSU-UAW on achieving a historic first contract for Harvard’s graduate workers. This union persevered through every obstacle of humans and nature to cement a just agreement. Let other groups of workers and employers in academia show the Trump administration that all workers deserve the dignity and justice collective bargaining brings.”
In December, Rep. Levin led a letter signed by 21 Harvard graduates serving in the U.S. House of Representatives expressing support for graduate student employees who were striking. He repeatedly spoke with both sides to encourage them to achieve a mutually agreeable contract.
