National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare Endorses Andy Levin For Congress

The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (NCPSSM) endorsed Andy Levin for Congress, citing his commitment to preserving and enhancing programs that provide a crucial safety net for older and vulnerable Americans.

“NCPSSM is enthusiastically endorsing Andy Levin because he has the leadership, vision and determination to fight for working families and older Americans, and he understands the critical roles Social Security and Medicare play in our nation,” said NCPSSM President and CEO Max Richtman. “Millions of seniors and families are counting on Andy, and we know he is well-prepared and committed to making the preservation and enhancement of these vital programs a priority in Congress.”

Levin is a lifelong progressive Democrat, nationally-known union organizer, clean energy entrepreneur and workforce policy expert. When elected, Levin will help Michigan’s working families by fighting for good-paying jobs with benefits, quality public education and Medicare for All.

Levin says Social Security and Medicare are two of the greatest achievements of the Democratic Party and must be protected.

“We can never go back to the days when our elderly were allowed to live and die in poverty,” Levin said. “We owe it to today’s seniors and to future generations to protect and expand this vital program at a time when nearly half of families have no retirement savings at all.”

“Republicans try to scare people into thinking Social Security can’t be fixed, because they want to privatize it,” Levin continued. “But we can make modest tweaks to ensure the solvency of this program for decades and decades to come, including raising the wage cap to ensure that the wealthiest Americans are paying their fair share.”

On Medicare, Levin said health care is a human right.

“As the father of two sons who live with Crohn's disease, I understand the physical, emotional and financial toll of chronic illness and why it is so important that we pass Medicare for All and address the astronomical costs of prescription drugs,” Levin said.
