The Michigan Credit Union League & Affiliates (MCUL) announced its endorsement of Andy Levin for Congress today.
Representing more than 5.3 million members, MCUL provides credit unions with the opportunity to financially support candidates for state and federal office who have demonstrated a belief in the credit union movement.
“We’re endorsing Andy Levin for Congress because we trust he will put the needs of consumers first,” said MCUL & Affiliates President and CEO Dave Adams. “It’s time we level the playing field and offer Michigan residents banking they can trust. And we trust Andy Levin to fight for these ideals in Congress.”
Levin says in Congress, he will work to protect and strengthen the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and ensure the agency preserves consumer access to the products and services offered by credit unions. To date, the CFPB has saved consumers billions in unjust fees and charges.
“Shamelessly, the Trump administration is working to destroy the structures we have in place to protect consumers from abusive practices and unjust fees,” Levin said. “I will work with the MCUL to ensure all consumers are safeguarded and treated fairly.”
Adams was impressed by Levin’s history with credit unions adding, “Andy Levin has been a lifelong credit union member. He understands the credit union difference and the important role we play in the lives of millions of our members across Michigan. He will support policies that ensure credit unions can serve, grow and remain strong for both consumers and small businesses across the 9th Congressional district.”
Since announcing his campaign, Levin has been endorsed by more than a dozen regional and national unions representing millions of American workers including the AFGE, AFL-CIO, AFSCME, Communications Workers of America, International Association of Machinists, International Union of Operating Engineers, Iron Workers, Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council, Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights, National Nurses United, National Weather Service Employees Organization, Service Employees International Union, SMART, Teamsters, United Auto Workers, UNITE HERE, United Food & Commercial Workers Local 951, and Utility Workers Union of America.
