PCCC Backs Andy Levin (MI-9)

July 25, 2018

Today, as announced in Politico, the million-member Progressive Change Campaign Committee proudly endorses a bold progressive candidate: Andy Levin (MI-09). He is running for an open blue Congressional seat on the same bold, economic populist agenda that has already inspired voters to the polls across the Midwest and will help take back the House for Democrats.

The progressive blue wave is growing stronger as we head into the 2018 midterms. Just this week, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez teamed up with Senator Bernie Sanders to support PCCC candidate Brent Welder (KS-03) for his August 7 primary that the Guardian calls “the next major test of the strength of the left.”

The PCCC has raised about $1.7 million for progressive candidates this cycle. PCCC-endorsed candidates have won nearly every primary so far this cycle, and many of our candidates are now the Democratic nominee in top flippable House districts. These include Kara Eastman (NE-2), Katie Porter (CA-45), Mike Levin (CA-49), Liz Watson (IN-9), Dana Balter (NY-24), Ammar Campa-Najjar (CA-50), Andy Kim (NJ-3), and Jess King (PA-11).

PCCC Statement on Endorsing Andy Levin:

"Today we're endorsing Andy Levin because he is a strong Midwestern fighter for working families. Andy Levin is a former union organizer who will use his power in Congress to  fight for fair wages and better jobs for Michigan workers. We're seeing a populist wave sweeping the nation, and Andy Levin is part of that movement." -- Stephanie Taylor, Co-founder, Progressive Change Campaign Committee

More About the Candidate:

Andy Levin (MI-09). Andy is a former union organizer, and one of the main architects of the Employee Free Choice Act, which would make it easier for anyone to join a union if they wanted to. He’s running for Medicare-for-All, free college for poor and working-class kids, and to stop global warming. As he says, “We can build a new politics of solidarity that will help working class people vote in their economic interests and take and hold power.” Fun fact: Andy learned Haitian Creole during his days organizing nursing home workers. He’s running for the open blue Congressional seat in Michigan. The current congressman is his dad, New Deal Democrat Sandy Levin, who is retiring this year. The primary is August 7.

Andy Levin Statement on PCCC Endorsement:

“I’m thrilled to have earned the support of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, which is working hard to get strong progressive Democrats elected to all levels of government,” Levin said. “Together we will help voters see very clearly who is the real champion for working people by offering a sharp vision of economic policy that benefits all of us — good jobs with living wages, trade policies that raise standards instead of lowering them, universal public education from preschool to college to job training, Medicare for All, major investments in infrastructure, and protecting Social Security and pensions so Americans can retire with dignity.”
