UFCW Local 876 Endorses Andy Levin for Congress

United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 876, representing more than 19,000 workers across Michigan, endorsed Andy Levin for Michigan’s 9th Congressional District today.

“UFCW Local 876 is endorsing Andy Levin for Congress because we know his track record of fighting and winning tough battles for Michigan’s working families,” said UFCW Local 876 President Johnnie Turnage. “In just the past few weeks, we’ve seen politicians in Lansing and Washington undermine workers’ rights and slash their wages. We trust Andy to fight for our needs, and the needs of all workers, when he is in Congress.”

Levin has spent decades fighting and winning battles for the middle class, both inside and outside of government. In college, Levin helped striking cap and gown workers by persuading seniors to graduate unrobed rather than wear robes from a factory where workers were on strike. Levin has never stopped advocating for workers since, going on to organize hundreds of health care workers with SEIU and serve for 11 years as Assistant Director of Organizing for the national AFL-CIO.

“Like so many Michiganders, I am sick and tired of trickle-down economics that hurts the middle class,” Levin said. “As your Congressman, I will be a champion for workers’ rights, high quality public education, and Medicare for all.”

Levin has also been endorsed by many regional and national unions representing millions of American workers including the AFL-CIO, AFGE, AFSCME, Communications Workers of America, International Association of Machinists, International Union of Operating Engineers, Iron Workers, Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council, Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights, National Nurses United, National Weather Service Employees Organization, Service Employees International Union, SMART, United Auto Workers, UNITE HERE, United Food & Commercial Workers Local 951, and Utility Workers Union of America.
