Congressional Progressive Caucus Endorses Andy Levin for Michigan’s 9th District
The Congressional Progressive Caucus, the largest caucus within the House Democratic Caucus, endorsed Andy Levin for the 9th Congressional District today.
The CPC promotes a strong, progressive agenda focused on fighting for economic justice and security for all; protecting and preserving our civil rights and civil liberties; promoting global peace and security; and advancing environmental protection and energy independence.
“Andy Levin is a lifelong fighter for economic justice, human rights and environmental protection,” said Congressional Caucus Co-Chair Congressman Mark Pocan (D-WI). “His energy, passion and experience will be a welcome addition to the caucus as we work to move these issues forward in Congress for the American people.”
Levin has been at the forefront of progressive causes for decades, from investigating human rights abuses in Haiti, to organizing groundbreaking recruitment campaigns for AFL-CIO, to founding a statewide market for clean energy projects.
“Andy Levin doesn’t just talk the talk. He’s been walking the walk since he was a college student fighting Apartheid,” said Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL). “Andy is as progressive as they come, and not only that, he knows how to organize people and deliver results.”
Levin said he’s honored to have the CPC’s endorsement.
“It is an enormous privilege to have the support of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and its members,” Levin said. “I’m eager to work alongside them as we advocate for economic and social justice, promote global security and advance environmental protections.”
Levin far outpaces the rest of the field in both organizational and individual endorsements. He’s been endorsed by all state representatives in the 9th district, seven Democratic Macomb County Commissioners, nine former and current U.S. Representatives, five former and current countywide elected officials, former Gov. Jennifer Granholm and a host of local elected officials and community leaders.
He also has the endorsement of AFL-CIO, Americans for Democratic Action, National Nurses United, SEIU, UAW, Teamsters, UFCW, Steelworkers, AFGE, Machinists, Iron Workers, Carpenters, Operating Engineers, Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council, and more.
