Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council Endorses Andy Levin for Congress

June 21, 2018

The Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council endorsed Andy Levin for Congress this week.

The endorsement adds to the long list of labor support for Levin, including SEIU, UAW, Teamsters, UFCW, Steelworkers, AFGE, Machinists, Iron Workers, Carpenters, Operating Engineers and more. Levin remains the only candidate in the race to have received any endorsements from organized labor.

"We endorsed Andy because he has always had close ties with our affiliated unions and we believe that as a member of Congress he will be a tireless supporter of building trades workers and other working families," said Patrick Devlin, Secretary-Treasurer of the Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council.

Levin is a lifelong progressive Democrat, a nationally-known union organizer, government leader and now clean energy entrepreneur. He served as Assistant Director of Organizing for the national AFL-CIO for 11 years, helping workers across the country organize for a better life with a wide variety of unions. Levin also has a proven track record in government of creating policies and programs that help working people and the environment, from No Worker Left Behind to the Green Jobs Initiative.

Levin said he’s honored to be endorsed by the Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council.

“The construction trades have taken hit after hit in this state, most recently from the repeal of prevailing wage,” Levin said. “It’s time for a new movement to restore the middle class, not just in Michigan, but in this country. I’m ready to go to Congress and fight to restore the

freedom to form unions, create good paying jobs, train workers for the industries of tomorrow, and pass Medicare for All.

Levin also far outpaces the rest of the field in individual endorsements. He’s been endorsed by all state representatives in the district, seven Democratic Macomb County Commissioners, nine former and current U.S. Representatives, five former and current countywide elected officials, former Gov. Jennifer Granholm and a host of local elected officials and community leaders.
