Citing his dedication to creating a better life for working families, the UAW announced its endorsement of Andy Levin for the 9th Congressional District today.
“On behalf of all active and retired UAW Region 1 members, we are proud to endorse Andy Levin for Congress because he knows that when working families prosper, the entire state of Michigan proposers,” said UAW Region 1 Director Charles Hall. “We are confident that Andy will represent our members and community well. With his vision, working families and retirees will be well taken care of.”
With more than 400,000 active members and 580,000 retired members, The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) is one of the largest and most diverse unions in North America. UAW-represented workplaces range from multinational corporations, small manufacturers and state and local governments, to colleges and universities, hospitals and private non-profit organizations.
“The UAW helped lay the foundation of the middle class in this country,” Levin said. “From helping pass civil rights legislation like the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Fair Housing Act, to fighting for fair wages and good benefits, the UAW has been at the forefront of progress since its inception.”
Levin has been endorsed by a dozen local, statewide and national unions representing millions of American workers including the Communications Workers of America, International Association of Machinists, International Union of Operating Engineers, Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights, National Nurses United, National Weather Service Employees Organization, Service Employees International Union, SMART, UNITE HERE, United Food & Commercial Workers Local 951, and Utility Workers Union of America.
