SMART Union Endorses Democrat Andy Levin for 9th Congressional District

(STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich.) — SMART Union, representing sheet metal, air, rail and transportation workers, endorsed Andy Levin for Michigan’s 9th Congressional District on Wednesday.

“We know Andy will represent our members in a way that will further the causes in which we both believe -- desirable and safe working conditions, job security and a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay,” said Sheet Metal Workers Local 80 Business Manager Timothy Mulligan.

Levin served as a front-line union organizer for five years and as Assistant Director of Organizing for the national AFL-CIO for 11 years, helping workers across the country organize for a better life with a wide variety of unions. Now he is taking the fight to Congress, where he will stand up to the mounting attacks on workers’ rights and make raising living standards for working families a top priority.

“It’s an honor to have SMART support our campaign as part of our movement to increase the standard of living for all working people through good paying jobs, strong public schools, and Medicare for all,” Levin said.

Levin has also been named a Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate and has been endorsed by the Communications Workers of America, International Association of Machinists, Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights, National Nurses United, National Weather Service Employees Organization, Service Employees International Union, UNITE HERE, United Food & Commercial Workers Local 951 and Utility Workers Union of America, Congressman Dan Kildee, former Congressman Mark Schauer, former Congressman David Bonior, former Gov. Jennifer Granholm, state Rep. Bill Sowerby, state Rep. Henry Yanez, Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith, Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham, Oakland County Water Resource Commissioner Jim Nash, and retired Macomb County Clerk Carmella Sabaugh.
