(CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich.) – Former Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer formally endorsed Andy Levin for the 9th Congressional District, saying he has a strong record of progressive activism that gets results for working people.
“I support Andy Levin for Congress because of the progressive values he’s lived—as a union organizer, community activist, innovator in job training services for hard-hit workers, and as a business owner growing Michigan’s clean energy economy,” Schauer said. “I trust Andy Levin to do what’s right. He lives his values. He will take on anyone—Donald Trump included—who will do harm to the people and state he cares about so deeply.”
Andy Levin is a nationally recognized union organizer. He served as Assistant Director of Organizing for the national AFL-CIO for 11 years, helping workers across the country organize for better working conditions and fair wages. Levin also created the Union Summer program, which has trained young people to serve on the front lines of union campaigns for more than 20 years.
Now Levin owns and operates a clean energy business, creating good jobs while reducing carbon emissions, protecting public health and improving air and water quality.
“Equity and justice are in Andy’s DNA,” Schauer said. “Andy will represent the values, concerns, and people of the 9th District while fighting to protect human rights, workers’ rights and our Great Lakes.”
Levin said of the endorsement: “I am so honored to have Mark’s support as we build a new movement for the working class and take the fight to Congress.”
Levin has also been endorsed by former U.S. Rep. David Bonior, State Rep. Henry Yanez and retired Macomb County Clerk Carmella Sabaugh.
