State Rep. Yanez endorses Andy Levin, ‘fighter for working people,’ for 9th Congressional

(STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich.) – State Rep. Henry Yanez, D-Sterling Heights, on Tuesday endorsed Andy Levin for the 9th Congressional District, saying Levin is the strongest candidate to fight for working families in Washington.

“Andy Levin has been a fighter for working people for decades, fighting shoulder to shoulder with union brothers and sisters for better pay, better working conditions and equal treatment for all,” Yanez said. “I know Andy will bring that same energy to Congress, to fight the status quo and push policies that raise living standards for the middle class.”

Levin announced his candidacy for the 9th District on Dec. 6. In the three weeks before the end-of-quarter deadline, he raised an impressive $123,000 from nearly 250 donors, a majority of whom donated less than $200.

Yanez said Levin’s fundraising success demonstrates his strong work ethic and shows he is quickly building a grassroots-driven campaign.

“Andy understands how Republicans have devastated the middle class with their trickle-down economics and divide-and-conquer politics,” Yanez said. “He has proven he knows how to build movements, and right now we need nothing less than a new movement for the middle class.”

Yanez is currently serving his third term representing Michigan’s 25th House District, which comprises parts of the cities of Sterling Heights and Warren in Macomb County. Before serving in the Legislature, Yanez worked as a Sterling Heights firefighter and paramedic.
